Why was the NTAD created?

Why was the awareness day created?

Teaching assistants work long hours in classrooms across the UK. Their vital work to support children’s education has always deserved greater recognition. This is a way to show them our thanks.

My most rewarding moment as a Teaching Assistant was…

We asked you to share your special stories that sparked your love for teaching and made a lasting impact on your journey in education.

When I saw an ex-pupil who struggled at school now doing so well in their young adult life and they said to me “Thanks Miss for helping me, I am at college now”. Not taking any credit but was a nice moment.

Julie

When a young boy Y7 came up to me while I was on break duty to tell me his tooth had fell out. He was standing there holding it to show me. I said “when you get home put it under your pillow and see what the tooth fairy leaves you”. He replied, “my mum doesn’t have any money, so I won’t get anything”. I nearly cried. As soon as the break bell went, I ran to the staffroom grabbed a £1 from my purse and found him in the dinning room. I called him over and gave him the £1, his little face lit up, he was delighted, bless him.

Irene

When it was coming to the end of term and the year sixes were preparing to leave, one young lad who’s class I had worked with in KS1 and lower KS2 often gave me a hug. I said “oh G, what am I going to do when you go?”. He said “it’s ok Mrs Jackson, I’ll just give you more each day while I’m here” 🥰🥲 We have such special children 💕💕

Sandra

I’m a teacher and the bottom line is that Teaching Assistants are absolutely incredible and make a class work or fail.
